Australian snowboarder Andrew O’Sullivan will be charged after he breached a snow ban for the first time on Saturday.
The 24-year-old from Geelong will face an independent review of his action.
The incident was captured on video and was posted on social media.
“I was out with friends and when I got back, I realised I was under a snow bank and I was looking at the ground and I just realised, ‘I’m going to have to go out,'” Mr O’Brien said.
“So I just jumped off and went to the top of the hill and went for a walk, and I’ve got a big smile on my face.”
Mr O’ Sullivan said he had been skiing for two months.
“It’s been a while since I’ve done anything like this,” he said.
He was not injured and is set to appear in the Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday.
Mr OBrien said the decision to make the jump was his “best decision” and he had had no problems with his health in the past.
“The only thing that was frustrating was that my friends and I had a good laugh about it,” he added.
