The World Cup is almost upon us, and the U.S. women’s national team is back in action.
But what happens if it’s not?
Here’s how the 2018 FIFA World Cup, held in Russia, compares to other World Cups in the past:Forget about the 2018 World Cup: It was a disappointing one.
It was also a spectacular one, as the USWNT led by Abby Wambach went unbeaten in four matches, winning the World Cup on home soil in front of more than 2 million fans in front, in the biggest crowd ever to watch a U.N. Women’s Cup game in Russia.
The USWT scored a historic win, one that put the nation on the map, and helped cement the team as the World Team.
But the tournament was overshadowed by the U-20 Women’s World Cup that was held in Japan.
The U-18s didn’t make the final, but the US women earned a place in the 2019 FIFA World Youth Championship and, ultimately, a spot in the 2018 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
As the U20s prepared to head to Rio, the world’s attention turned to the women’s World Cups.
The women’s team was a revelation in 2018.
It took a while for them to break into the elite ranks of the sport.
But, with Wambaches starting the tournament at number one, the US was back to winning ways, having earned a third straight title.
The team has not won a gold medal since, but it is on track to make it three straight, with a fourth title in mind.
With the 2018 U-19 World Cup already in the books, the next U-17 World Cup was in the offing, and while the US won that event, it did not qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
That tournament is now underway.
And it could be a tough one for the U18s to win.
With a record of 7-1-1 in 2018, the U16s looked to the UST as a potential rival for the top spot.
The Americans dominated all of the first half, but were beaten by a 0-0 draw at the start of the second half.
The UST did not score in the second 45 minutes, and finished with just three shots on target in the match.
The second half saw the U17s finally score a goal, but this time it came from a penalty, which was disallowed.
The loss was devastating for the US, which ended the tournament with a 1-1 draw.
The U18 team was also knocked out of the tournament.
While the US Women’s team is not ranked in the world, they have the potential to win the tournament, and they have a chance to break the all-time series scorecard at 1-0-0.
The top two teams will advance to the semifinals.
The 2018 FIFA Women’s Olympic team is also back.
But this time, the USA will face the likes of Canada, the Netherlands and Germany.
That tournament will be held in Brazil, where there will be more attention on the U19s and the USA than there was in 2018 in Moscow.
If the U22s, who qualified for the World Youth Cup after the 2018 tournament, can make it to the finals, it would put them in a position to win it all.
The World Cup for the 2018 Women’s U-16s, the 2018 Under-17s and both the U23s are underway, and all three teams are expected to qualify for Brazil.
The final is in March 2019, so it will be interesting to see how things play out.
But the next World Cup will be on March 8-10, 2020, and it will have a much different atmosphere than what we are used to seeing at these World Cups, as well as a much bigger stage than ever before.
